AWARD on the division of the township of Dalton – 1709

An award made by the commissioners appointed to divide the town and fields of Dalton (in Northumberland). This document contains a detailed account of the lands and farms in Dalton, and to whom they were allotted. In many instances acreages and abutments are given. Lots were drawn and names given in respect of the repair of the mill race. Other awards are listed, for example: “John Fenwick shall have liberty to take some grave stones every year ….. seven feet long and four feet broad out of Mebrough limestone quarry copy of the award of Dalton 7th June 1709”. On 4 pages of paper, folded, c 20 x 31 cms, with tears along the folds.
