AL LETTER by Private XYZ – 1937


AL, typescript,signed by Frank Griffin, author of ‘I joined the Army’, which was published under the nom de plume of Private XYZ in 1937. In his letter he criticises the War Office and is disparaging of the upper class. He writes to his correspondent that he is not surprised that man’s letter, equally critical of the army, was not published by the Times… and the Daily Worker would not have the space to do so in their 8 pages. He states inter alia that he will write nothing further about the Army, having turned to the more profitable fields of ordinary fiction.24th June 1938.
